Mia's Bio:

Mia was born and spent her early years in Slovenia where, as a young woman she became national champion in alpine ski racing.  She earned a degree in economics with additional study in foreign languages.

After migrating to the United States and becoming an American citizen, she added yoga classes to her daily work routine about twenty years ago.  Yoga soon became a passion which expanded to research in Eastern religions, philosophies, and studies in Sanskrit.  She began teacher training in 1994 with Val Moren Cananda in the Shivananda tradition levels I and II  and was subsequently granted an Ashanga yoga teacher certificate in 1995 after further study in Mount Madonna.

Since she discovered Jivamuki Yoga Center in New York City she has become a devoted student of Sharon Gannon and David Life and completed a one year long teacher training in 2001. Spiritual pilgrimages took Mia to Bali, Thailand, Nepal, India, Tibet, Bhutan, Bolivia, Peru, Bolivia and, finally, the Caribbean.

After living and working in urban centers such as New York and Washington, D.C., she is now spending most of her time in St. Croix as Director of the “Sundari Retreat and Yoga Center” teaching yoga group classes daily as well as private sessions.

Mia’s basic philosophy is that yoga practice is an effective way of maintaining good health, delaying the aging process, as well as producing in the practitioner a sensation of well-being and liberation.  Yoga, once a passion, has now become a mission to benefit others.
